Why rent offices in Dunfermline?
Nestled on the northern shore of the Firth of Forth across the water from Edinburgh, Dunfermline is a thriving town that has undergone significant expansion over the past 15 years or so. It has grown in size and population, moving east towards the M90 corridor, and Fife Council has plans to encourage similar growth to the south-west, with proposals for 4,000 new homes in the town.
Major employers in the town include Rolls Royce and many companies serving the offshore oil and gas industry. Fife has the greatest concentration of customer service businesses in Scotland, generating an annual turnover of more than £500 million. Tourism is important too, given the presence of famous golfing destination St Andrews, and the town has been ranked as the top outdoor destination by Scottish Natural Heritage six years in a row.
Dunfermline is known as the birthplace of legendary businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, and he gives his name to the town’s Carnegie Conference Centre. Located a little to the east of the town centre, just off the M90/A92 junction, the centre offers business events and conferences for up to 300 delegates.
All this is partly because of Dunfermline’s proximity to the Scottish capital. It is an ideal commuter base, with Edinburgh just 17 miles away, or 40 minutes by car. The town has two railway stations, with a third planned, and there are three stations nearby to the south of the town. Edinburgh is a 35-minute rail journey, with trains running every half hour via ScotRail.
Further afield, Glasgow is only a 50-minute drive, while Dundee is about an hour away by road. The nearest major international airport is Edinburgh Airport, about 13 miles to the south of Dunfermline, and there are smaller municipal airports not far away at Glenrothes (18 miles), Cumbernauld (25 miles) and Perth (32 miles). Norfolkline runs a continental ferry service to Zeebrugge in Belgium from nearby Rosyth.
