Office space in Dewsbury
Looking for office space to rent in West Yorkshire, within spitting distance of the area’s major metropolitan centres? Then Dewsbury in Kirklees could be just the ticket. Welcome to the Office Genie guide to this minster town with big plans for the future.
Why rent offices in Dewsbury?
Formerly at the centre of the industrial revolution in the 19th century, Dewsbury has moved forward from its roots in wool manufacturing. Now its proximity to the major urban centres of Leeds and Bradford, eight miles to the north, and Huddersfield, about the same distance south-west, have made it a popular commuter town.
There’s been a spate of development in recent years, with new residential apartments in the town centre and plans afoot to encourage office use in both the residential and retail quarters of the town. Kirklees Council has an ambitious 25-year vision for ‘Dewsbury Renaissance’.
There are plans for a new high street, with more independent retail outlets, street traders, flexible work space and leisure activities and attractions for families and other groups. The award-winning Dewsbury Market has 400 stalls and operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and there’s a popular flea market on Fridays.
Excellent transport links have helped, given Dewsbury’s position just four miles west of J40 of the M1 and five or six miles to the south and east of the M62, with quick access to J25 and J28. This means Dewsbury is just 25 minutes away from Leeds by car, with Manchester a shade over an hour’s drive and Sheffield just 45 minutes away.
Dewsbury is also served by the TransPennine Express railway on the Huddersfield Line, giving rail travel times of 45 minutes to Manchester, just eight minutes to Huddersfield and 15 minutes to Leeds, with onward connections to Newcastle and Middlesbrough. The town is only a few miles north of the spectacular Peak District National Park, too.
Property here is still much cheaper than in the nearby major cities, so costs will be lower to live and work here. But Dewsbury has still preserved much of its fine 19th century architecture and the local Conservation Area contains 57 listed buildings. Major employers in the town include Carlton Cards and there are strong local business networks, with many businesses being family run, trading and recruiting locally.
