Local cultural attractions include the museum of the Manchester Regiment located in the Grade II-listed Ashton Town Hall, and the Portland Basin heritage centre and museum, celebrating life on the old Ashton canal. There are five parks in Ashton, three of which have won Green Flag Awards.
Ashton-under-Lyne’s location away from the heart of Manchester makes it easily accessible and helps cut those city centre office costs. It has three stations served by the Manchester Metrolink tram system, which runs to Manchester Piccadilly station in just under half an hour. There are regular rail services from Ashton-under-Lyne station to Manchester Victoria (10-15 minutes) and Huddersfield (35 minutes). You can get to Dewsbury in 50 minutes and Leeds in an hour. London is around three hours by rail.
The M60 cuts through the west of Ashton-under-Lyne, giving easy access to the M56 (15 minutes away) and the M6 (30 minutes by car). The M62 and M66 are less than 15 minutes drive north, while the Peak District National Park is just 20 minutes away to the east by car.
