The Northwood Hills project aimed to restore and modernise the town centre, with a view to drawing people and businesses in to make better use of the area. Use of the funding included joining forces with businesses to improve the appearance of shops, providing training in visual merchandising and drawing new business in to occupy previously empty premises.
The scheme also saw a number of improvements to roads and public transport, including new paving and resurfacing, redesigning of parking bays and new bus stops to improve transport connections.
There are two main roads running through Northwood Hills which have formed part of the project. Joel Street, the area’s high street, is home to many a business, including anything and everything from funeral directors and accountants, to health and wellbeing centres and restaurants. Meanwhile Pinner Road, off the main roundabout, features the Northwood Hills services station, a variety of businesses and carries the A404. This road starts at Paddington and terminates near Maidenhead in Berkshire.
There are excellent transport links, with London Underground stations at Northwood, Northwood Hills and Moor Park all on the Metropolitan line. The mainline Northwood Hills station is also served by regular trains to key areas such as Watford, Amersham and Chesham. In the southbound direction, off-peak services run up to four times per hour to Baker Street and Aldgate.
In addition, the high street has been restored as a gateway to northwest London’s green spaces, itself separated by green buffers on almost all sides.
