Following its success as an industrial town, involving silk and cotton manufacturing as well as engineering, Leigh’s wealth resulted in many outlets for the entertainment of its population, including theatres, cinemas and public houses. Leigh is home to several industrial and business parks. There are several buses running from Leigh Bus Station to Manchester, as well as local destinations such as Bolton, Warrington and St Helens. There is presently no train station in Leigh, but nearby Atherton (three miles) runs services to Wigan and Manchester.
