Do you need an office to rent in south London with a business-friendly local council and plenty of green space nearby? Then Colliers Wood could be the ideal location. Take a look at Office Genie’s guide to this thriving London neighbourhood.
Why rent offices in Colliers Wood?
Colliers Wood is an area in south-west London, between Wimbledon and Croydon. It’s mostly residential, and it’s split down the centre by its busy high street. There’s plenty of retail development – there are two large shopping centres and a supermarket built on the site of a former printworks. But there is also plenty of green space. As well as the local park, the area has the 11-acre Wandle Park, owned by the National Trust, and the Wandle Meadow Nature Park. Both are next the River Wandle, which runs through the area to join the Thames at Wandsworth.
Colliers Wood is on the London Underground, served by the Northern Line, giving journey times of 20 minutes to Waterloo. It’s just 1.5 miles from Wimbledon rail station, which has services by South West Trains to Waterloo (journey time 15 minutes), and is also on the Thameslink serving Luton and Sutton. It’s 30 minutes’ drive from Colliers Wood to J8 of the M25, with j( and the M23 interchange only three miles beyond that. Colliers Wood is 12 miles from the start of the M3 at Sunbury-on-Thames.
Plenty of development has been going on here. Merton Council has worked with Transport for London and the Mayor of London to improve links to local amenities and historical sites, such as Merton Priory and Merton Abbey Mills. This is the building that housed the workshops of Arts and Crafts artist William Morris, which is now a craft village with a restored waterwheel and weekend market.
There’s a heap of support for business here, too. Merton Chamber of Commerce is the largest in London and offers business advice, training, advice and networking events. Merton Business Support Service provides practical advice and support to help businesses to start up and expand. Perhaps that’s why Merton won the award for “Best All Round Small Business Friendly Borough” at the 2014 Small Business Friendly Borough Awards.
